Customer Service Officer Jobs

The role of the customer service officer is to provide an exemplary service to customers and help direct them to further sources of information, other services of interest and to answer questions, offer general advice and make sure the customer has a positive experience with the organisation.

The customer service officer may have worked up from an assistant role, or have transferred from an equally skilled role in another function. This extends right through to closing the call and updating customer management records where necessary.

The Customer service officer may work at a retail, public-facing or drop-in office where customers come face to face to get support. The employee will need to be smart, friendly and personable, representing the company in the best possible way at all times. The role may also be located offsite at a call-centre or other location. In some cases, teleworking is a possibility and customer interactions will be either by telephone or remotely, online or via mobile devices for example.

Essential skills for the role include excellent communication, experience with customer management and using related systems to update records and manage appointments etc, an excellent manner and confidence dealing with difficult queries, the ability to analyse and solve problems and to deal with queries in a calm and efficient manner.
