Retail Customer Service & Call Centre Jobs
Working in a customer service role in retail is a varied and rewarding career which can eventually lead to retail supervision and management. You are sure to find an industry that suits your interests and abilities as many types of firms require retail staff to sell their product.
The key to enjoying a customer service job in retail is to find an industry that you enjoy and are keen to become knowledgeable about, be it fashion, IT, gardening, construction, or electronics to name but a few. At a basic level a job in retail involves serving customers, ascertaining what they need and processing the sale. For this you will need to understand and operate sales systems including cash registers, processing credit card transactions and vouchers, counting money and balancing cash drawers.
You will also need to be up to date with any sales, promotions and policies the company operates, including terms of sale, refunds and exchanges and security practices. You may also be responsible for stocking shelves, arranging displays, displaying prices, stock control, preparing sales contracts or finance agreements and processing exchanges and refunds. Depending on the industry and products involved you may have to prepare estimates or sell insurance.
If you are interested and knowledgeable about the products you are selling this will come across in your sales technique and you should be able to advise customers, assisting them in purchasing the right product. Working in retail requires multiple skills such as good communication, mathematical ability, the desire to help customers and an interest in their queries, together with knowledge of sales technique and marketing. You will also need to solve problems and customer complaints and work well in a team.
